Taro - Brewer St
people's choice dining 2009 resultLaunched in 1999 by the eponymous Mr. Taro, this casual and funky noodle bar models itself on a casual Japanese shokudo, or diner. The atmosphere is friendly, the prices low, the menu varied and the ingredients super fresh. As well as great noodles – as this ranking shows – the chicken teriyaki dish is a perennial favourite.
  • Cheerful taste
  • Cheap, great food
  • The food is original, fresh and beautifully presented
Wagamama - Covent Garden

The Convent Garden branch sticks to Wagamama’s shared table policy, making it a friendly place to eat even if you’re by yourself. Noodles share an extensive menu with rice dishes, grilled dishes and fresh, colourful salads.
  • Definitely great noodles
  • Good food at a good price
  • Friendly service and great value for money

This charming little haunt, just off Oxford street, serves up delicious noodles in rich broth for a casual lunch treat – but you can also venture down the stairs to a the basement bar where there’s also two low-ceiling private rooms, perfect for a party. A sleek and unique spot, equally good for a quick bite or a long night.
  • Great noodles, just like Japan!
  • After years of searching finally the discovery of Tonkotsu Ramen in London. Can it get any better?
  • Great if you are a bit posh or want to impress

Ryo
people's choice dining 2009 resultA steaming bowl of noodles is one of Japan’s ultimate convenience foods – it’s the equivalent of everything from a quick lunch to an end-of-the-night kebab, and Japanese can be super-discerning when it comes to both the noodles and the soup. Ryo’s made-in-Japan taste, décor and ordering style clearly make this an authentic dining experience for the UK’s Japanese community.
